Access can be granted using convenient, low-security credentials as well as advanced, high-security credentials with either single- or multi-factor authentication methods.

  • Single-Factor Authentication
This authentication method requires only one form of verification to confirm a user's identity. This information is typically known to the user, for example, a PIN code.
  • Multi-Factor Authentication
This authentication method combines two or more credentials, for instance, a PIN combined with a keycard. Requiring multiple forms of verification using various credential types helps increase security and ensures the access control system can effectively verify identities and grant or restrict access based on predetermined protocols.

With the flexibility to set up access using single- or multi-factor authentication, operators can easily ensure the right level of security. For instance, during daytime hours, an office with a front reception desk might only require individuals to use a fob key to enter. However, after hours when the office is closed, multi-factor authentication can be set up requiring both a fob key and PIN code to ensure a higher level of security. What’s more, credentials can be time-limited, so users are required to use them within a given period after which they become inactive.

Encrypted communication

Axis applications and devices support OSDP (Open Supervised Device Protocol) Secure Channel to encrypt communication between Axis network door controllers installed on the secure side of the door, and various credentials methods used to gain access from the unsecured side of the door, for example, using card readers.
