NEW SOFTWARE RELEASE ==================== Products involved: AXIS StorPoint NAS 100 for Fast Ethernet AXIS StorPoint NAS 100 IDE for Fast Ethernet Release date: March 9, 2001 Release type: Service release Software version: 1.10.1 File name: nas100_110_1.bin File size: 2,238,730 bytes Last preceding release: 1.10 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Corrected problems in version 1.10.1 ==================================== 1.10.1:1 CIFS/SMB: Windows 9x clients could sometimes hang If multiple Windows 9x/NT/2000 clients accessed the same set of files simultaneously, there was a small risk that some of the Windows 9x clients would hang. 1.10.1:2 CIFS/SMB and NetWare: File short names missed the extension When long filenames were shortened to 8+3 format, the file extension was lost, which caused some applications to fail, i.e. Access 97 on Windows 98. 1.10.1:3 CIFS/SMB: Changing file permissions in a Win2k domain When the StorPoint was installed in a Windows 2000 domain, changing file permissions from a Windows NT client could cause the StorPoint to crash. 1.10.1:4 CIFS/SMB: Firmware upgrades from Windows 9x did not work When the StorPoint was in user-level security mode, it was not possible to upgrade the firmware over CIFS/SMB from a Windows 9x client. Once 1.10.1 has been installed succesfully, future firmware upgrades can be performed from Windows 9x clients. 1.10.1:5 CIFS/SMB: Parameters for domains with restricted anonymous login Parameters User Account and User Password (accessible from config.ini) can be used if the domain is configured to restrict access for anonymous logins. 1.10.1:6 Memory handling: A small memory leak was present If multiple Windows 9x/NT/2000 CIFS/SMB clients continuously accessed the same set of files, a small memory leak could eventually lead to memory exhaustion. 1.10.1:7 Axis Network Cameras: Compatibility with Axis Network Cameras The functionality and stability of the StorPoint when accessed by Axis Network Cameras has been improved. 1.10.1:8 File System: Some clients could cause directory inconsistencies Some Windows CIFS/SMB and NetWare clients could cause file system inconsistencies when directories were moved around; it was possible to create directory loops. 1.10.1:9 FTP: The FTP Time Out parameter did not work Because the FTP Time Out parameter did not work, FTP sessions not properly closed could prevent new user from logging in. 1.10.1:10 FTP: File modified date and time were not updated When files were overwritten with FTP clients, the modified date and time were not updated. 1.10.1:11 FTP: The FTP settings web page has been improved A new look for the FTP settings web page makes the function of the parameters clearer. 1.10.1.12 IP: Routing problem across subnets with differing subnet masks A client on a subnet with fewer bits in the extended network prefix than the subnet on which the StorPoint was situated could sometimes not communicate with the StorPoint. If the least significant bits of the client's IP number were all 1s, the StorPoint would erroneously interpret it as a broadcast address. 1.10.1:13 SCSI: The SCSI Disconnect/Reselect parameter did not work It was not possible to change the status of the parameter, which meant that Disconnect/Reselect was always enabled. 1.10.1:14 SCSI: The SCSI settings web page did not always work 1.10.1:15 IDE: Command Aborted condition was not handled correctly When a device aborted a command, the operation would fail immediately, when the StorPoint should retry the command. 1.10.1:16 Telnet: The Telnet port has been closed --------------------------------------------------------------------- New features in version 1.10 ============================ 1.10:1 Performance: Enhanced performance with regards to speed of file-read and file-write in a mixed mode environment is increased as much as 2 times. 1.10:2 IDE devices: NAS100 IDE is fitted with 4 IDE channels. 1.10:3 PureIP: Straightforward IP protocol used according to new Novell NetWare 5 release. Forthright and faster transfer protocol is achieved. 1.10:4 Unicode: Two bytes representation of filenames. None Latin characters can be represented in filenames. 64K characters are included in Unicode. (Compare to ASCII character, 256 Latin characters) 1.10:5 New IP setting: Change of IP address and new IP address setting can be performed from Web browser or "Find Computer" dialogue. More user-friendly IP setting is achieved. 1.10:6 200 GBytes volume: The maximum guaranteed mountable volume is 200 GBytes. 1.10:7 CIFS/SMB: UserLevel security in Windows 2000 environments The StorPoint can now be accessed even when the userLevel security is used in an environment where a Windows 2000 Server is the domain controller. Active directory is not supported. Corrected problems in version 1.10 ================================== 1.10:1 CIFS: Security permissions set by Windows 2000 can now be used by Win9x. 1.10:2 CIFS User Manager-tool: The function of creating home directories for users are now fully supported. 1.10:3 CIFS/SMB: "NetBIOS session limit has exceeded" The error message "NetBIOS session limit has exceeded" appeared on Windows 2000 Professional clients when shareLevel security was used or when using Terminal Server and more than 10 session have been established. 1.10:4 SMB: OS/2 client compatibility problems When using userLevel security, OS/2 clients experienced some problems when accessing mapped resources from the OS/2 DOS prompt. This problem is now corrected. 1.10:5 CIFS/SMB: Listing/copying of some files in large directories Some of the files in a directory with large number of files have not been shown correctly. This problem is now corrected. 1.10:6 NetWare: NCP burst mode was disabled in 1.00 because it could cause failure in the server when using CIFS and netware simultaneously. This problem has been corrected and the parameter is now enabled by default. 1.10:7 Wrong time stamps on files Time and date stamps on files and folders are now correct. 1.10:8 FTP enhanced: Rename command implemented, fragmented commands supported. 1.10:9 NFS: The NFS protocol is enabled by default. Known limitations in version 1.10 ================================= 1.10:1 Performance: If you store more than 10000 files in one directory performance will decrease when browsing that directory. 1.10:2 NFS: If a disk is formatted, the previous export of the volume will be removed. 1.10:3 NFS: Copying read-only files with PCNFS to the NAS 100 server is not supported. Workaround: Remove the read-only flag before copying, and reset the flag afterwards. 1.10:4 NFS: We support most linux distributions, except RedHat 6.2 (earlier versions of RedHat is supported). 1.10:5 CIFS: Time stamps on files created and modified from OS/2 clients are not be correct. 1.10:6 CIFS: The support for Unicode file names does not include share names. 1.10:7 Netware: The Netware Filer administration program does not work correctly with the StorPoint NAS 100. 1.10:8 Netware: During installation in NDS using the installation Wizard in the Web administration interface, using the back button might cause installation to fail. 1.10:9 NetWare: If installation is done in a new tree (no prior schema extensions), the config.ini file has to be used instead of the Web wizard. 1.10:10 NetWare: ARCServeIT for backing up of the NAS 100 server is not supported. 1.10:11 NetWare: When installing the NAS 100 server into NDS, the NDSAdminName parameter must be entered without the leading dot (.). 1.10:12 NetWare: If an NAS 100 server is installed into two different containers in the NDS tree, it will exist under both names and it will answer to both server objects in NDS Manager. 1.10:13 NetWare: If the File Scan rights is not set on a folder, the NAS 100 server will only hide the content of the folder - not the folder itself. 1.10:14 NetWare: A user that has been assigned Supervisor rights to a folder which resides some levels down in the file hierarchy must have at least File Scan rights to the volume where that folder resides in order to see it. 1.10:15 FTP: Performance will decrease if multiple FTP clients are simultaneously writing files larger than 1 MB to the same directory. 1.10:16 FTP: Passive mode is not supported. 1.10.17 FTP: Timeout does not work. 1.10.18 FTP: Modified time is not changed when a file is over written. 1.10.19 SCSI: Disconnect/reselect parameter does not work. 1.10:20 Volume management: After a factory default, the share name of the volumes might differ from the actual volume name. 1.10:21 General: It's recommended not to initiate a firmware upgrade or a server shutdown when a file check of a volume is being performed.
