1(3) NEW SOFTWARE RELEASE Version 1.2 ==================== Product involved: AXIS 540+/542+, AXIS 640/642 Release date: Nov 3, 1997 Release type: PRODUCTION Software version: 5.41 Software media: AXIS 540+/542+ Flash AXIS 640/642 Flash Software checksum: AXIS 540+/542+ Flash AXIS 640/642 Flash Last preceding release: AXIS 540+/542+ 5.38 AXIS 640/642 5.36 Upgrade instructions: See upgrinfo.txt document --------------------------------------------------------------------- Important: - When upgrading a unit that has a software revision lower than 5.36, the print server will set all parameter values back to factory defaults. Please save the config file before performing upgrade. Easy Release Description: 1. Added support for HP JetAdmin allowing installation and management of the print servers from JetAdmin. 2. Improved reliability during flash loading preventing the print server from hanging during upgrade. This applies to both FTP and IPX flash loading. 3. Fixed a problem that made the print server hang sometimes when the IP address or net mask was changed during runtime. 4. NetWare. Fixed a problem that prevented print servers with version 5.36 to appear in NetPilot if there was a router in between. 5. The AppleTalk protocol now supports drivers for the Canon GPS 200 Fax/Printer. A problem with the handling of non PostScript data in the beginning of a PostScript print job prevented printing in earlier releases. 6. Fixed a problem that generated NCP warnings presented in PCONSOLE if those warnings were enabled on a NetWare file server. 7. Added support for HP OpenSpool. Now possible to print directly to the print servers IP address with LPR without having to specify a printer port. 8. Fixed a problem that could cause infinite authentication pop-up messages when using MS Internet Explorer for configuration. 9. Added support for SNMP over IPX. 10. Fixed problem with corrupt printouts caused by reverse data polling. When a non-reverse protocol (such as LPD or FTP) were followed by a print job using a reverse protocol (such as PROS or Reverse Telnet), the non-reverse job could be corrupted. The problem only occurred when the parameter PRx_IN (accessed in NetPilot from the Logical printers property page, value "Read-Back Port") was set to AUTO. 11. Added support for PJL unsolicited status. 12. Fixed a problem causing print servers to hang when printing with TCP/IP protocols over Token Ring networks. Best regards AXIS COMMUNICATIONS AB ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Appendix A - DETAILED TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF RELEASE App A Product involved: AXIS 540+/542+, AXIS 640/642 Software version: 5.41 1. AXIS 540+/542+, AXIS 640/642 can now be installed, configured, and managed with HP JetAdmin printer management tool. Both Unix and Windows (3.11, 95 and NT)versions of HP JetAdmin are supported. 2. The flash loading is now more reliable. When upgrading a unit that has a software revision lower than 5.39, the flash loading could fail. For units with revision 5.41 or higher, flash loading is more robust. 3. If the IP-address or the subnet mask of the print server was changed while one or more reverse telnet port were configured (set to something else than 0), the print server could hang and would have to be manually restarted. 4. NetWare. Software release 5.36 introduced a problem in the NetWare RIP protocol which prevented the print server from appearing in the list of servers on the file server when placed on the other side of a router. 5. No additional information. 6. Among all the Set Parameters on a NetWare File Server, one can in the NCP section choose the following (default is OFF): "Display NCP Bad Component Warnings" "Display NCP Bad Length Warnings" By enabling these warnings the following message was displayed: "Processed an NCP with a bad sub-function length". This problem is now solved. 7. The print jobs sent using e.g. OpenSpool will be printed on the printer defined in the parameter DEF_OUT (accessed from NetPilot General property page, value "Internal Printout Destination"). 8. When the authentication information was split in two packets the print server would not recognize the password. 9. The print server can now be managed by SNMP tools in NetWare environments. 10. No additional information. 11. The print server will retrieve advanced printer status from printers that support PJL. 12. Token Ring only. Now the link layer accepts packets that has size 4464 bytes + headers. Before, packets with size larger than 4100 bytes were truncated, causing the packet to be rejected. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Appendix B - SOFTWARE LIMITATIONS App B Product involved: AXIS 540+/542+, AXIS 640/642 Software version: 5.41 1. Secondary printer function doesn't work when printing from AXPUW nor AXIS Print Monitor. 2. There is a potential problem with sending print jobs over ftp to printers supporting both bitronics and PJL, when the parameter L1_MGM_INFO (NetPilot property pages, value "Printer Management Information LPT1") is set to AUTO. The status messages sent back to the user may confuse some ftp clients, and thus prevents sending more than one print job over that ftp connection. This is avoided if the parameter L1_MGM_INFO is set to NONE. 4. PROS print jobs may be corrupted when printing with bitronics support. The problem is avoided if the parameter PRx_IN (NetPilot property pages value "Read-Back Port") is set to NONE. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
