1(1) NEW SOFTWARE RELEASE ==================== Product involved: AXINSTALL Release date: 99-06-10 Software version: 2.0.1 Last preceding release: 1.8.7 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Release description: Axinstall has been totally rewritten to include support for a number of new operating systems and print systems. A number of new features in modern print systems are now supported. All changes cannot be listed here, but here are some: * Uninstallation of printers has been added for all types of systems. * Installation of a 'standard' printer has been made easier. The printers now has default values for many options and these are only asked for if necessary. * The user interface has been improved. * New supported systems: - SCO UnixWare 2.x - SCO UnixWare 7 - SCO OpenServer - Linux systems - Sun Solaris 2.6 with new print system. * Support for printer models and printer content type has been added for Solaris and HPUX. * Support for printer types and data streams has been added for AIX. * Kanji printers can now be installed in Solaris, HPUX and AIX systems, using the support for printer models and types in these systems. * Possibility to add a physical port instead of a logical port has been added. Observe that printing to physical ports does not work for all protocols in older versions of the print server firmware. * Added support for gcc as compiler. A compiler is needed when PROSB or PROSA printers should be installed. Many UNIX systems today does not include a compiler. gcc (GNU cc) is a free compiler that can be used. * Banner pages can now be suppressed when printing in SYSV systems by the lp -o nobanner option. * Added trace functionality for easier debug and support help. On some terminal types this feature does not work very well. Best regards AXIS COMMUNICATIONS AB
