User credentials for access control systems

Credentials are the methods or tools used to verify the identity of people or vehicles trying to gain access to a building, facility, or secure area. Axis offers a broad portfolio of applications and products that use encrypted communication to authenticate different credential types.

Credentials supported by Axis

Axis supports both advanced and convenient credential types, depending on specific needs. Any of these credentials can be combined for multi-factor authentication purposes.

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification): This credential uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags. These tags are embedded in access cards.

  • Access cards/ key fobs- Using RFID technology, these physical devices provide a high level of security. Examples include AXIS TA4711 Access Card and AXIS TA4712 Key Fob.
  • PIN (Personal Identification Numbers): Short numeric codes used for authentication.

QR (Quick-response) code ®

  • Static QR code- a convenient, scannable QR code that, once generated, cannot be edited or overwritten.
  • Dynamic QR code- more secure than static QR codes, dynamic QR codes can be edited multiple times without having to reprint and redeploy the code. Requires AXIS Mobile Credential app installed on any smart device, such as a mobile phone or tablet.

License plate

  • Details about license plates, such as their size, shape, and country of origin, can be used to identify and authenticate vehicles entering an area.
