What's new?
Axis ARTPEC-9 system-on-chip introduces next-generation analytics, imaging, cybersecurity, and video encoding with AV1.
Axis Communications announces the 9th generation of its purpose-built system-on-chip (SoC). ARTPEC-9 builds on and refines capabilities and features that characterize previous generations of the company’s in-house-designed SoC: Exceptionally low bitrate, AI-powered analytics, quality imaging and enhanced cybersecurity. In addition, in a first for network video, ARTPEC-9 supports the proven AV1 video encoding standard from the Alliance for Open Media (AOM). Together with Axis Zipstream, AV1 makes it easy to reduce storage cost without sacrificing forensic detail.
A win for the industry: Axis adds support for AV1 encoding standard
In an industry-first, Axis announces support for the proven AV1 video encoding standard with the release of the ARTPEC-9 system-on-chip (SoC). AV1 is optimized for streaming media. Thanks to low bitrate and uncompromised image quality, new features, rich client support, and hassle-free implementation, AV1 is on a fast path to becoming the encoding standard of choice for network video.
Video surveillance and the GDPR. What will change?
At a time when technology, including smart cameras, allows companies to collect much more sensitive information about individuals, more stringent supervision of the protection of personal data is vital. A video recording of an identifiable person naturally forms part of an individual’s personal data. The EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), which came into effect throughout the European Union in May 2018, therefore affects camera system operators.
