Autovictor: Corporate Excellence and Integrated Security with Axis Solution

Autovictor’s services are present in many sectors, such as civil, industrial, petrochemical and energy. The company is committed to business excellence through continuous improvement, adopting high standards of quality, efficiency and respect for the environment, as well as guaranteeing the health and safety of its operators. 

Autovictor has recently expanded its industrial area, which covers now about 31,000 m2. This change has necessitated the implementation of an advanced security system. This system includes video surveillance, access control with license plate reading, video intercom, VMS and other features such as remote viewing software and the use of advanced analytics. In order to ensure a several levels access control, it was decided to use existing cards, which were already used for burglar alarm management. The main objective was to avoid the use of different keys, opting instead for a single badge. This badge, integrated into a complete access control system, ensures in this way a smooth and efficient interface.

Aiming for this goal, Edoardo Gualdoni, Security Advisor at TK and Axis’ partner, presented a project that involves the entire Axis product portfolio, including surveillance, access control, intercom, video analytics and VMS.  The goal was to create a unified, multi-purpose solution that covers different aspects. This kind of approach has simplified the overall management of the security system, ensuring effective integration between all components and optimizing operational efficiency.

‘To date, each of the 110 employees has a unique personal card. Every card is differentiated by permission levels according to the worker’s role. All services can recognize the holder of the card and, in case the card is lost, the procedure for blocking and restoring it is extremely simple. Furthermore, in case retrospective searches are needed, the system greatly facilitates the process. The solution also offers significant customization possibilities, both temporary and ad hoc. For example, cleaner staff can only gain access on certain days and in specific time slots, or an operator can have full access for one day, depending on the needs of the moment,’ Edoardo points out.

The implementation of a white list in the license plate reading system was a significant step in facilitating vehicle access to the designated area. This approach optimizes the flow, allowing authorized vehicles to enter without having to interrupt their route or honk. The presence of predefined lists of authorized number plates creates an effective access management mechanism: vehicles on these lists can pass through the area without having to stop or request the barriers manual opening. This not only improves transit efficiency, but also reduces waiting times and increases the smoothness of operations.

‘It is particularly relevant that the readability of the number plates is guaranteed even under challenging operating conditions: despite difficult circumstances such as the presence of protruding crane hooks, the system manages to read the plates accurately,’ Edoardo highlights. 

All cameras installed in the system are Axis cameras. Motorized bullet cameras were chosen to monitor the perimeter and control any access to the pedestrian walkway. For the yards where the semi-trailers are parked, the access to the offices and the roundabout crossed by the vehicles, multisensor cameras were used. Inside, 12MP fisheye cameras with a dewarping function were placed in critical positions to address lighting challenges thanks to their special design that projects the LED beam upwards.

In addition, M-series cameras with microphone and speaker were deployed in the CED room to monitor access and racks. 

Finally, TK automated the entire system, managing everything from pedestrian gates to vehicle gates, including the automatic barrier. To ensure precise access control, plate number verification is required for vehicle entry, while magnetic coils were installed for the exit, a smooth flow for all exiting vehicles to be ensured.

In addition to the pursuit of high-level technical functionality, Autovictor paid special attention to creating green spaces, geared towards ESG standards and the needs of customers in tenders, to enable them to achieve higher scores. ‘We made a clear environmental choice about green areas: what is not essential for our operations has been turned into a garden. The fact that Axis received the Ecovadis environmental certification played a decisive role in this decision, adding further value to the company's approach,’ adds Alessandro Gino, Autovictor Technical and Operations Director.

This system has obtained from the outset appreciable results, regarding especially the implementation of a single identification card used for various purposes: management of internal refueling, vehicle start-up with driver identification when the vehicle is switched on, activation and deactivation of the alarm system and access management. This solution has greatly simplified personnel management, making the whole internal administration much easier and faster.
