When refueling becomes sustainable and safe: Germany relies on self-service filling stations
Verbio's biorefineries in Europe, Asia, and North America turn agricultural raw materials and residues into sustainable products for mobility, industry, and agriculture. Verbio offers a climate-friendly and cost-effective alternative to diesel, particularly for green logistics, with waste-derived BioCNG and BioLNG biogas. Verbio is currently building a nationwide network of self-service filling stations equipped with the latest security technology from Axis Communications.
Green mobility and sustainable logistics
Verbio has been producing biofuels from regional raw materials since 2001. Production is carried out following the German Biofuel Sustainability Ordinance. Verbio is convinced that biofuels make a very important contribution to climate protection to become independent of fossil fuels in the long term and to significantly reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector. The company is also investing in the development of its own BioCNG/BioLNG refueling network in Germany. The focus here is on transport companies.

Cooperation between Verbio and Axis
Innovation and sustainability are an important topic for the company. As the leading biofuel producer in Europe, the company's commitment to future-proof and sustainable solutions is also evident in other areas. For example, Verbio is currently building its network of self-service filling stations in Germany. A total of 20 of them, mostly near highways, and all equipped with state-of-the-art security technology from Axis Communications. The AXIS Camera Station solution with cameras, loudspeakers, and access control systems was installed by Oefele Energietechnik, a family business from Bavarian Swabia.
Verbio focuses on freight forwarders and truck fleets
The primary target group for BioCNG and BioLNG filling stations are haulage companies. This is because freight forwarders and companies with their truck fleets in particular face major challenges when it comes to sustainability. E-mobility is not (yet) suitable for heavy goods and long-distance transport in the coming years. Nevertheless, the CO2 footprint must be improved and, ideally, the high operating costs reduced. Biomethane is an interesting alternative here. The fact that the gas is produced exclusively from agricultural waste and straw makes it particularly sustainable. The Verbio technology was developed in-house and is the only one of its kind in the world.

KRITIS requires a high level of security
Axis cameras, speakers, and access control provide on-site security, remote monitoring, and the ability to contact the customer directly via intercom and speakers. By using AXIS S30 recorders "on edge", no additional server is required for each location. The recorders store the data locally and are connected to the central server. This saves time, reduces bandwidth, and facilitates remote management. The design of the S30 series focuses on ease of use, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Axis Secure Entry manages access to the key box, which contains the mechanical key for the technical equipment room.
Technology container with double protection
"It's perhaps a little unusual that a digital solution secures the actual key for our container," smiles Holger Bingart. "But this solution offers us advantages: Because it means we know that only authorized people can gain access."
The employee receives access via a QR code on their cell phone. Axis Secure Entry recognizes the authorization and opens the key box. The key then allows access to the room. If there are any difficulties, an intercom system is available. A strobe siren is used to raise the alarm if the key box is tampered with. It also sounds the alarm if it has been open for too long or if someone has forgotten to close it.
Outstanding image quality thanks to IR illumination
The Panoramic cameras of the AXIS P47-Series are located on the dispensers themselves and monitor the side of the truck. The multidirectional dual-sensor camera ensures excellent image quality even in difficult lighting conditions thanks to 360° IR illumination and individually controllable LEDs
Additional network cameras keep an eye on the entrance and exit from the fuel pump area. The loudspeakers of the AXIS C16-series are also located here, allowing the driver to speak directly to Verbio via intercom in the event of problems. The advantage of the network cameras is obvious. Thanks to remote access, technicians do not need to be on-site to check settings or respond to an alarm, for example.
There are also sensors on the pumps that can detect escaping gas. Flames are also detected by a heat sensor. If an alarm is indicated here, those responsible can quickly see the situation via the cameras and take action.
AXIS Camera Station and S30 Recorder bring efficiency
The use of AXIS Camera Station as a management platform together with the AXIS S30 Recorder Series offers additional benefits. The recorders are characterized by their operational efficiency, low maintenance requirements, and flexibility.
These features make the S30 series an attractive alternative to traditional Axis Camera Station network video recorders (NVRs) for companies and organizations that want to set up or upgrade their surveillance systems with minimum effort and maximum scalability.

Conclusion
The collaboration between Verbio, Oefele Energietechnik, and Axis Communications is an exciting project on several levels. On the one hand, all three companies are committed to sustainability, and on the other, Oefele Energietechnik and Axis Communications are supporting Verbio in making the vision of biofuels for the transport sector more accessible. The first self-service filling stations have already been realized in the German cities Kleinostheim, Ennigerloh, Rohr, Denkendorf, Hohenwarsleben, Zörbig, Stade, Kittlitz, and Hockenheim and the next ones are already under construction.
The topic of sustainability, reducing the CO2 footprint, and replacing fossil fuels is also very important to us as a Swedish company.
